Pictures from the Philippines
Here is a bunch of Pictures from my vacation in the Philippines, July 1999. I went there to meet my girlfriend MrsC. She lives in the USA now, but was born in the Philippines. That's why we decided to meet there. The Philippines is a country that has both beautiful scenery as well as large cities with lots of traffic and tall buildings. There's also a lot of poverty and people living in the streets and in slum. They try to build some shelter using what they can find. Or they sleep right on the ground. If they're lucky, they might have a blanket to sleep under. As a tourist, you usually do not see that part of the Philippines, I think. But I and my girlfriend saw this, while we stayed a few days in Manila. In the evening, the streets became full of people that made them their home for the night. Some made small fires and tried to make dinner before they "went to bed" in the street. We had just had dinner at a restaurant and had brought the left-overs with us. On our way home, MrsC wanted us to go to a slum district and give our left-overs to the people there. So we did, and gave it to a family with children. Needless to say, the family was very happy to get our food. They didn't need to go to bed hungry that night.
My photos do not show this part of the Philippines. They show some scenery and city pictures. But I wanted to tell you about the other side of the Philippines as well. Now, here are my photos:
