Martial Arts

One of my interests is Martial Arts. There are quite a few Martial Arts. Perhaps the most well known Martial Arts are Judo, Karate and Kung Fu. Then there are a few less known like maybe Ju-Jitsu, TaeKwonDo and Aikido. And after these, there are a vast number of other Martial Arts, like Ninjutsu, Kendo, Taido, Shorinji Kempo, Naginatado, Kyudo, Jodo, Iaido and Tai Chi.

Judo, Karate and Aikido have developed out of Ju-Jitsu. You could say that each of these Martial Arts, has concentrated on one part each of Ju-Jitsu: Judo concentrates on throws and holds. Karate concentrates on punches and kicks. And Aikido on grips and take downs.

I used to train Ju-Jitsu, which is one of the oldest Martial Arts. It is said, that an Indian monk called Daruma, who moved to China in the 6th century, was practising Ju-Jitsu. The first man to practise Ju-Jitsu in Sweden, was Viking Cronholm. He introduced Ju-Jitsu in Sweden in 1907.

Ju-Jitsu is a self defence system, where you learn to defend yourself without weapons against an attacker, who might use weapons against you. There are a number of techniques to defend yourself from punches, kicks, grabs, holds and other attacks. But you can also compete in Ju-Jitsu. And there are two events in which you can compete in Ju-Jitsu: Fighting/Kumite and Duo/Kata.
